Top Ten World of Warcraft Battlegrounds

While pitting yourself against the challenges of World of Warcraft is certainly a fun way to see how your character can hold up, sometimes you’ll just feel the need to go out and smash another player into tiny bitsies. This can take on many forms, either out in the world for a no holds barred one-on-one, in the Arena with your friends against a coordinated effort, or gathering any size group of allies to smash an enemy town. And while these choices can be invigorating, there also exists the option to take to the field with a team of allies in objective-based maps and fight for dominance.
Enter the Battlegrounds! These specially-designed combat maps have been a topic of much debate over the years in World of Warcraft, and today we’ll be listing the Top 10 best World of Warcraft Battlegrounds currently within the game, based on their merits — such as style, layout, gameplay, and overall fun factor.

10. Alterac Valley

Alterac Valley was once the largest and most intense battleground available. Summoning two teams of an astounding forty players, the map played as a siege hybrid where the only objective was to eliminate the enemy leader deep within the opposing team’s base — guarded not just by the enemy team, but also by hordes of NPCs, archers, and a whole lot more.

9. Deepwind Gorge

The newest Battleground to find its home in Azeroth, Deepwind Gorge is a hybrid cross between a Capture the Flag and Capture Points map, where two teams of fifteen fight to control three mines located across the center axis. In addition to capturing these points, players may attempt to steal previously mined gold (points) from the opposite team’s base, and haul it back to theirs, adding what was stolen to their own coffers.

8. Temple of Kotmogu

Ahh, a death pit if we’ve ever seen one! The Temple of Kotmogu is reminiscent of a large Arena map (though it is the smallest battleground), and is largely devoid of obstructions, barriers, and all the other little nasty things that might trip you up during your headlong rush to shatter the skulls of your enemies. This battleground is the only one of them all that directly rewards a team for killing enemy players, and as such it is highly encouraged to do so.
